Takeoff software for building material suppliers. A contractor’s plans in, your priced list out.
Takeoff software for building material suppliers measures the plans a contractor or builder sends for a quote and turns the measured quantities into the materials you sell, in order units with waste, priced from your own price list first. Below: the sixteen supply lines with the recipe count behind each, our view on where supplier takeoffs lose money, how it works, and what it does not do.

Can a building material supplier use takeoff software?
Yes. It is the same takeoff contractors price their jobs with, pointed at yours: every line comes out in the units you sell, priced from your price list first, with the source shown on the line. Each of the 16 supply lines below starts on the app’s own recipes, 290 of them in all, and the first takeoff is free.
- supply lines, each with its own calculator
- 16
- starting recipes across them, yours to edit

- a full takeoff on a set a customer sent you

Pick the line you sell
Each page runs the app’s recipes for that supply line in a calculator, shows what a takeoff for it carries, and says plainly what it does not do. The recipes download free as a CSV on every page.

Where do supplier takeoffs lose money?
Our opinion: a measured wall is not an order. The order is studs, plates, sheets and nails in the units you sell, with waste, and the conversion between the two is where a counter takeoff quietly loses money. In the electrical starting recipe, one duplex receptacle brings eight materials onto the order, from the box to the wire nuts. That is why every page here shows its recipes in the open, factor by factor, and lets you run them on your own numbers before you send us anything.

How do a customer’s plans become a quote you can send?
- 1
Send the plans
Forward a set a contractor or builder sent you for a quote, as drawing PDFs.
- 2
Ruh measures and converts
Quantities are taken off by type, each tied to the sheet it came from, then converted into material lines in order units, with waste where the recipe sets it.
- 3
You price and send it
Lines are priced from your own price list first, and each one shows where its price came from. Once someone approves it, the list exports as a PDF to send or a CSV for your own system.

What it does not do
Said plainly, so nobody finds out on a live quote.
- Purchase orders
- Reading a customer's reply or a mill quote back into the list
- Links to your ERP or point-of-sale system
- Anything the drawings do not show: missing heights, slopes and depths wait for a person
“Ruh helped us win a job during the demo, so we saw value before we even became a client.”
- takeoffs delivered to 29 contractors across 15 trades
- 45
- US, Canada and the UK, Jun to Oct 2026
- material lines in the recipes behind these pages
- 1,415
- with waste and rounding where each recipe sets them
