For fire protection suppliers

Sprinkler takeoff for fire protection suppliers. Heads, pipe and riser trim, counted.

Sprinkler takeoff for fire protection suppliers turns a sprinkler contractor's plans into the material a supplier quotes: heads by type with the drop and escutcheon each one needs, branch lines and mains by size and schedule, and the valves and trim on the riser. Further down: the wet-system recipes in a calculator, the takeoff screen reading a sample sprinkler plan, a table of what a sprinkler order carries, and the recipes as a download.

Quick answer

Can a fire sprinkler supplier get a material list from the plans?

Yes. Ruh counts the heads the plans show by type and measures the drawn pipe by size and schedule, then turns each into its material: the head, escutcheon and drop fittings, pipe with hangers and couplings, and the riser valves and trim. Thirteen wet-system recipes ship with it as your starting point, and we take off the first set free.

What does a pendent head need besides the head?

In the app's starting recipe a pendent head on a drop carries an escutcheon, 3 feet of 1 inch pipe, a branch outlet, an elbow, a reducing coupling and thread tape. Type a head count or a pipe length to see the lines, quantities only.

Each line is the measured quantity times the recipe’s factor. Lines the recipe marks as whole units, such as sheets, boxes and hangers, are rounded up before waste, the way the app rounds them. Round the with-waste figure up to whole pieces when you build the order.

What this cannot tell you: a layout or a hydraulic result. The takeoff counts the heads and measures the pipe the drawings show, a delegated layout area waits for a person, and nothing is designed or calculated. The starting recipes cover wet systems only.

Watch it count

What does Ruh see on a sprinkler plan?

Heads are counted by type as the plan is read, and the mains and branch lines are traced by size, each quantity tied to its sheet. Each head and run then becomes the fittings and pipe in the calculator above.

What does a sprinkler order carry?

Every head brings fittings the plan never draws. The table follows each part from the sprinkler set to the way it is counted or measured to the lines it adds.

Our view

What do suppliers get wrong about sprinkler quotes?

Our opinion: A sprinkler quote lives or dies on the drops, not the head count. In the app's starting recipe every pendent head on a standard drop carries three feet of 1 inch pipe, a branch outlet, an elbow, a reducing coupling and an escutcheon. A quote that counts heads and prices pipe by the foot leaves out the fittings the fitter installs at each head. Count heads by type and each standard drop comes with its head, while longer drops are measured as branch line.

What it does and does not do

What it does today

  • ✓Counts shown heads by type and measures shown pipe by size from drawing PDFs
  • ✓Turns each head into its drop fittings and each run into pipe, hangers and couplings
  • ✓Holds delegated layout areas for a person instead of inventing them
  • ✓Prices from your own price list first, with the source on every line
  • ✓Exports as PDF, CSV or JSON

What it does not do

  • Sprinkler layout or hydraulic calculations
  • Dry-pipe, pre-action or fire pump recipes
  • Purchase orders
  • Reading a reply or a quote back into the list
  • Links to your ERP or point-of-sale system
