Glazing takeoff for glass distributors. Storefront, glass and sealant, by system.
Glazing takeoff for glass distributors turns a glazier's elevations into the material a distributor quotes: storefront, curtain wall and interior glass by system and glass type, entrance doors by size, and the gaskets, setting blocks, anchors, sealant and backer rod behind every opening. Below: glazing recipes you can run, a clip of a sample elevation being measured, a table of a glazing order, and the recipes as a download.

Can a glass distributor get a material list from the elevations?
Yes. Ruh measures glazing by system and glass type using the documented dimensions, keeps openings, framing, doors and special glazing separate, and turns each into material: framing and glass by the square foot for your own quote, plus gaskets, setting blocks, anchors, sealant and backer rod. It starts you on 9 glazing recipes you can change, and the first takeoff carries no charge.

How much channel does an interior glass partition take?
A quarter foot of aluminum U-channel and half a foot of dry-glaze vinyl per square foot of 1/2 inch glass in the app's starting recipe, plus 10 percent waste, with the glass itself priced from your quote. Enter area or length to see the accessories.

Perimeter anchor and shim setHow it is builtA 20' x 10' opening has 60 LF of perimeter over 200 SF = 0.3 LF per SF. Anchors at 24 in o.c. = 0.15 per SF | 0.15 EA, whole units | 180 EA | None | 180 EA |
Silicone sealant, perimeter, 10.1 oz tubeHow it is built0.3 LF of perimeter per SF both sides = 0.6 LF. 24 LF per tube at 1/4" x 1/4". 0.6 / 24 = 0.025 | 0.025 EA, whole units | 30 EA | None | 30 EA |
Backer rod, closed cell, 3/8"How it is builtPerimeter both sides | 0.6 LF | 720 LF | 5% | 756 LF, incl. 5% waste |
Each line is the measured quantity times the recipe’s factor. Lines the recipe marks as whole units, such as sheets, boxes and hangers, are rounded up before waste, the way the app rounds them. Round the with-waste figure up to whole pieces when you build the order.
What this cannot tell you: lite sizes for fabrication, or thermal and structural performance. Glass and framing are measured in square feet by system and left to your own quote, so lite sizes still come from the elevations and shop drawings.
What does Ruh see on a glazing elevation?
Windows and entrance doors are counted against the schedules, curtain wall and storefront areas fill, and sealant perimeters are traced, each tied to its sheet. The recipes above then turn every opening into glass, framing and accessories.
What does a glazing order carry?
Glass and framing by the square foot, accessories by the foot and the piece. Each row goes from the elevation to the takeoff to the order.

| Part of the order | Where it is on the set | How it is taken off | What it becomes on the order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Storefront | Elevations and the window schedule | Square feet by system, openings by mark | Framing and glass by your quote, gaskets, setting blocks, anchors and sealant |
| Curtain wall | Elevations and curtain wall details | Square feet by system | Framing and units by your quote, with caps and pressure plates as detailed |
| Entrance doors | The door schedule and plans | Counted by size and type | Door, glass, closer, pulls and threshold |
| Interior glass | Plans and interior elevations | Square feet by glass type | Tempered glass by your quote, channel, dry glaze and setting blocks |
| Glass railings | Plans and sections | Linear feet | Glass by your quote, base shoe, gasket kit, top cap and anchors |
| Perimeter sealant | Elevations | Linear feet of joint | Sealant tubes and backer rod |
Typical practice, not a standard. Each job's specification decides the systems, glass makeups and finishes, and the takeoff follows it.
What do distributors get wrong about glazing quotes?
Our opinion: Glass is the line everyone prices carefully, and the accessories ride along as a percentage. They should not. In the app's starting recipe every square foot of storefront carries 1.4 feet of glazing gasket, and every foot of the perimeter joint recipe takes about a twelfth of a tube of sealant. Both are recipe factors, applied to the opening area and joint length measured on the elevations. Measure the openings once, and the gaskets, setting blocks and sealant come out of the same takeoff as the glass.
What it does and does not do
What it does today
- ✓Measures glazing by system and glass type from drawing PDFs
- ✓Keeps openings, framing, doors and special glazing on separate lines
- ✓Turns storefront and partition area into gaskets, setting blocks, anchors and sealant
- ✓Prices from your own price list first, with the source on every line
- ✓Exports as PDF, CSV or JSON
What it does not do
- Lite sizing or fabrication cut lists
- Thermal or structural checks
- Purchase orders
- Reading a reply or a quote back into the list
- Links to your ERP or point-of-sale system
Your first glazing takeoff is free.
Send elevations your team was already asked to price. Those come back taken off for free, and the glazing recipes are available as a CSV.
