Flooring takeoff for flooring distributors. Area by finish, base and trim by the foot.
Flooring takeoff for distributors turns a flooring contractor's finish plans into the material a distributor quotes: each finish by room in square feet with the waste that belongs to it, base and transitions by the foot, and the adhesive, thinset, grout and prep materials behind every floor. Further down you can run the flooring and tile recipes, see what a flooring order holds, read our take on waste, and save the recipes.

Can a flooring distributor get a material list from finish plans?
Yes. Ruh traces flooring areas by finish and room, measures base and transitions separately, and turns each into material: LVT, carpet, sheet goods or tile with the waste each one carries, plus adhesive, thinset, grout, base coils and corners. There are 28 flooring and tile recipes to begin with, and the first takeoff is free.

How much adhesive does glue-down LVT take?
About 0.0044 gallons of pressure-sensitive adhesive per square foot in the app's starting recipe, roughly one 4 gallon pail per 900 square feet, with the LVT itself at 7 percent waste. Enter floor area or base footage to see the order, prices left out.

Luxury vinyl tile / plank, glue-down, pressure-sensitive adhesive
Order list for 6,000 square feet of Luxury vinyl tile / plank, glue-down. A sample input: change it to the quantity on your set.
| Material | Per SF | Quantity | Waste | With waste |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury vinyl tile / plank, commercial, 2.5 mm, 20 mil wear layer | 1 SF | 6,000 SF | 7% | 6,420 SF, incl. 7% waste |
Pressure-sensitive LVT adhesive, 4 gal pailHow it is built1/16" U notch: 225 SF per gallon (Roppe PS-525). 1 / 225 = 0.0044 GAL per SF | 0.0044 GAL | 26.4 GAL | None | 26.4 GAL |
Each line is the measured quantity times the recipe’s factor. Lines the recipe marks as whole units, such as sheets, boxes and hangers, are rounded up before waste, the way the app rounds them. Round the with-waste figure up to whole pieces when you build the order.
What this cannot tell you: seam plans, roll cuts or dye lots. Flooring comes in square feet with the recipe's waste, so carpet and sheet goods still need a seam plan, and lots are matched by your warehouse.
What does a flooring order carry?
Area by finish, then the edges and the prep a room schedule never totals. The rows trace each part from the finish plan to the order.

| Part of the order | Where it is on the set | How it is taken off | What it becomes on the order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resilient flooring | Finish plan and finish schedule | Square feet by finish and room | LVT, VCT or sheet goods with waste, adhesive |
| Carpet | Finish plan | Square feet by product | Carpet tile or broadloom with waste, adhesive |
| Tile | Finish plan and interior elevations | Square feet by size and location | Tile with waste, thinset, grout and leveling clips |
| Wall base | Finish schedule and plans | Linear feet by type | Base coils, adhesive and preformed corners |
| Transitions and treads | Plans and details | Linear feet or counts | Reducers, stair treads and adhesive |
| Floor preparation | Specifications and finish notes | Square feet where specified | Patch, self-leveler, primer and moisture mitigation |
Typical practice, not a standard. Installed area and order allowance stay apart, so waste shows wherever a line carries it.
What do distributors get wrong about flooring waste?
Our opinion: Flooring quotes get the field right and the waste wrong. One percentage across every product is easy to apply and wrong for most of them. In the app's starting recipes 12 x 24 porcelain carries 10 percent waste where glue-down LVT carries 7, and on a big order that gap is real money in either direction. Measure each finish by room, keep base and trim on their own lines, and apply the waste that belongs to the material.
