Landscape takeoff for landscape supply yards. Plants, sod, mulch and drip, from the plan.
Landscape takeoff for supply yards turns a landscaper's planting plan into the material a yard quotes: trees and shrubs by species and size with their amendment and stakes, sod and beds by area, mulch, topsoil and compost in cubic yards, and drip tubing by bed area. On this page: a landscaping calculator, a clip of a planting plan being counted, a table of a landscape order, and the recipes as a CSV.

Can a landscape supply yard get a material list from a planting plan?
Yes. Ruh counts planting by the type and size on the plant schedule and traces turf and bed areas separately, then turns each into material: the plant with its amendment, stakes and mulch, sod with starter fertilizer, bulk mulch in cubic yards, and drip tubing with stakes and fittings. It ships with 9 landscaping recipes you can edit, and the first takeoff costs nothing.

What goes in the ground with each tree?
In the app's starting recipe a 2-1/2 inch caliper tree brings a quarter yard of compost, two stakes with ties, about a quarter yard of mulch and four fertilizer tablets. Enter a plant count or a bed or turf area to see the bulk, unpriced.

Each line is the measured quantity times the recipe’s factor. Lines the recipe marks as whole units, such as sheets, boxes and hangers, are rounded up before waste, the way the app rounds them. Round the with-waste figure up to whole pieces when you build the order.
What this cannot tell you: stock or substitutions. Plants are counted by the type and size on the schedule, so availability in your yard and any substitutions are still your call, and irrigation is measured only where it is in the drawn scope.
What does Ruh see on a planting plan?
Trees and shrubs are counted against the plant schedule, beds and sod fill, and edging is traced, each tied to its sheet. Each count and area then runs through the recipes above.
What does a landscape order carry?
Plants by the count and bulk by the yard. Each row runs from the planting plan to the order.

| Part of the order | Where it is on the plan | How it is taken off | What it becomes on the order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trees | Planting plan and plant schedule | Counted by species and caliper | Tree, amendment, stakes, mulch and fertilizer |
| Shrubs | Planting plan and plant schedule | Counted by container size | Plants, amendment and mulch |
| Sod | Planting plan | Square feet of turf | Sod with waste, starter fertilizer |
| Beds and mulch | Planting plan and details | Square feet of bed, depth from the details | Mulch, topsoil and compost in cubic yards |
| Drip irrigation | Irrigation plan, where it is in scope | Square feet of bed | Drip tubing, stakes and fittings |
| Edging | Planting plan | Linear feet | Steel edging |
Typical practice, not a standard. Plant sizes and bed depths come from each job's planting plan and details.
What do yards get wrong about landscape quotes?
Our opinion: Bulk material is where landscape quotes drift. Plants come off the schedule as counts, but mulch, topsoil and compost are areas turned into cubic yards, and the conversion is easy to rush. A 3 inch layer of mulch in the app's starting recipe is about 0.009 cubic yards per square foot, roughly one yard for every 108 square feet of bed. Measure the beds separately from the turf and the bulk quote follows the plan instead of a guess.
