Glazing: frequently asked questions
Is glazing the same as the window?+
No. Glazing is just the glass infill. The frame (storefront, curtain wall, or punched window unit) is taken off and priced separately because glass and frame have different suppliers and unit rates.
Why split tempered and laminated units onto their own line?+
Safety glazing at doors, sidelites, and hazardous locations carries a higher unit cost. Averaging it into the standard IGU rate understates the glass line, so each performance group prices separately.
Where do IGU counts come from?+
The window schedule lists each mark, its size, quantity, and glass makeup. Counts and areas are taken off the schedule and cross-checked against the elevations.
